When considering the components of the TISI, a decrease was observed across all elements, including overall sales, overall orders, production volume, operating costs, and earnings. This decline in industrial sentiment is attributed to a slowdown in domestic demand for goods such as automobiles, furniture, textiles, and clothing due to economic uncertainty, leading consumers to be cautious with their expenditure. Businesses, particularly SMEs, are concerned about the implementation of the national minimum wage increase to 400 Baht per day, which will impact production costs. Concurrently, the phasing out of government diesel price subsidies has led to rising energy and transportation costs. Furthermore, the exacerbation of drought conditions has adversely affected agricultural output and caused water shortages. Additionally, operators are facing challenges from low-priced foreign imports flooding the Thai and ASEAN markets. However, in April, there were fewer working days due to the continuous holidays during the Songkran festival, resulting in reduced product output. Meanwhile, exports have slowed due to decreased demand from trading partners linked to global economic uncertainties, including the intensified conflicts in the Middle East and the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war affecting global energy prices, along with instability in Myanmar impacting cross-border trade. Nevertheless, in April, there were positive factors from the influx of foreign tourists during the Songkran festival, which positively impacted sales in consumer goods. At the same time, global demand for food products has increased due to food shortages and drought conditions. Additionally, businesses with debt burdens benefited from commercial banks and several financial institutions reducing the Minimum Retail Rate (MRR) by 0.25% for a period of six months to support vulnerable customers, as requested by the Prime Minister.
