When considering the components of the TISI, it is found that overall sales, total orders, production volume, and performance have declined from the previous month. This downturn is influenced by negative factors from domestic demand, which has slowed compared to the previous month, due to concerns regarding the cost of living and household debt issues, resulting in consumer caution in spending. The export sector continues to witness a slowdown due to the weak economic conditions in trading partner countries, particularly China and Japan, compounded by the prolonged conflicts in the Red Sea region affecting Thailand's imports and exports, especially to European and Middle Eastern markets. Moreover, businesses are facing increased competitive pressures in the market and are adversely affected by low-priced substandard foreign products, resulting in lower sales for Thai entrepreneurs while energy costs have risen.
Nevertheless, there are positive factors from the continuously recovering tourism sector and the implementation of visa-free measures for tourists from China, Kazakhstan, India, and Taiwan, as well as the Easy E-Receipt initiative to stimulate domestic spending (from January 1 to February 15, 2024), along with measures to cap diesel prices at no more than 30 Baht per liter from January 1 to March 31, 2024, which positively impacts the business sector.
