แค่ Upskill/Reskill คงไม่พอ !

Currently, we cannot deny that we are in an era where AI is no longer just a trend... it has become an integral part of our daily lives, often without many realizing it. No matter where we look, whether in industry, business, education, media, or even in service jobs, everyone is talking about 'AI' as if it is a new player about to change the game!

When AI is no longer just a matter of 'experimenting'

In this era, we are aiming to make AI a 'smart assistant' rather than a 'puppet master' or 'job stealer'.

Various organizations, whether public or private sectors, are accelerating the use of AI across diverse dimensions inevitably. This is not just about enhancing efficiency but also about creating new innovations and transforming work processes and business models—such as analyzing an increasing amount of data, reducing redundancy and complexity, lowering costs, expanding teams without additional hiring, generating revenue, and so on. What started as an attempt to 'experiment with AI' is now leading towards 'developing AI skills for organizational employees' with no necessity for IT degrees or coding experience to utilize AI effectively.

Just upskilling/reskilling is not enough!

According to the Future of Jobs Report 2025 from the World Economic Forum, a section reveals that future labor skills will be in high demand and of utmost importance. These include technology skills (Hard Skills) such as artificial intelligence (AI), big data analytics, cybersecurity, and human skills (Soft Skills) like analytical thinking, adaptability, leadership, creativity, etc. Moreover, the skills gap remains an obstacle to the transformations which organizations and businesses are well aware of. Hence, they are rushing to prepare plans to enhance employees' skills in AI to adapt to changes in the labor market by 2030.

Today, it is believed that many organizations and businesses are seriously investing in AI tools, both hardware and software, and are intensively training their employees. But have we ever wondered why, upon actual implementation, we find that 'the results do not materialize' or 'the performance does not meet the objectives'?
Aside from the skills gap, there are indeed other significant factors that may lead to AI implementation not working as anticipated. Let us examine whether these issues are indeed present:

  • Wanted to be trendy, thus did not define what problem needed to be solved and link it to any objectives.
  • Viewed as a new toy, not a real work tool.
  • Lacked basic skills in usage, leading to misunderstanding that AI requires 'good prompts (Prompt is King)' or recognizing appropriate and inappropriate contexts for use, resulting in premature judgments that 'this AI does not work, leading to abandonment', including allowing AI to make decisions and analyses without filtering.
  • Lack of continuous training and real testing, leading to a lack of confidence and trial-and-error usage because they do not know which AI tools to use for what tasks.
  • No metrics indicating what value and potential AI can create.
  • No adjustments to the organizational culture and internal processes because the benefits of AI are not fully understood.
  • Employees are not open to learning, unwilling to change work methods, and concerned about the impact that AI will replace humans, leading to missed significant opportunities to adapt alongside AI and advance in their careers.

Tools are merely the destination, but 'the way of thinking' is more crucial.

Focusing solely on training to develop personnel skills (Upskill/Reskill) is insufficient because the suite of tools and power of AI from various providers is racing ahead so quickly that we can barely keep up, be it ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, Copilot, Canva AI, n8n, etc. All are innovations developed to be simply 'tools' awaiting utilization.

Why is 'the way of thinking' more important?

Before we choose to use any tool, we must first clarify what problems we wish to solve and how AI can help create value. To achieve tangible results, AI excels at solving complex problems, but humans must possess the 'way of thinking' to identify what constitutes the true issues worth addressing with AI. AI is designed to augment the capabilities of human workers, not just to replace them; it should make work easier, more efficient, and enhance the value of human roles. AI is like a double-edged sword; if the thinking approach is flawed or malicious, it will ultimately hinder the sustainable and safe implementation of AI. The world of AI is changing rapidly, so maintaining openness to learning, experimentation, and adaptability will enable organizations and employees to continually leverage new AI tools without clinging to the old. In other words, to succeed in the journey into the world of AI, we still need collaboration between both 'people' and 'systems' within the organization.
