Mr. Kriangkrai Theeranukul, Chairman of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), together with Mr. Apichit Prasoprat, FTI Vice Chairman, Ms. Jitraporn Jaratsrumsri, and Dr. Paphavanh Sutthisith, Corporate Communications Committee Member of FTI, presented a congratulatory basket on the occasion of the 37th anniversary of Bangkok Biz Newspaper. The delegation was welcomed by Mr. Chai Boonlakhorn, CEO and Chairman of the Nation Group, along with Mr. Weerasak Phongakson, Executive Editor of Nation Network and Executive Editor of Bangkok Biz, as well as other executives, on Friday, October 4, 2024, at Interlink Tower, Building 1, Bangna District, Bangkok.
Furthermore, on Monday, October 7, 2024, Mr. Kriangkrai Theeranukul also participated in a discussion on the topic “Geopolitics in the Modern World: Powers, Resources and Global Trade Wars” to provide guidance on the development of the Thai industry for survival and sustainable growth at the ASEAN Economic Outlook 2025: The Rise of ASEAN, A Renewing Opportunity seminar, organized by Bangkok Biz Newspaper, held at the Chatr Ballroom, Siam Kempinski Hotel, Bangkok.
During the discussion, Mr. Kriangkrai noted that the impacts of global geopolitical issues are leading to an economic decoupling in terms of trade and investment, due to the US-China trade war affecting Thai and ASEAN trade with the influx of Chinese goods flooding the market, the Russia-Ukraine war, and the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, which is escalating into confrontations with Iran, potentially affecting global energy prices in the near future.
For the adaptation strategies of the Thai industrial sector, it is crucial to focus on the development of Next-Gen Industries, which consists of 12 target industries (S-Curves) and industries driven by the BCG Model (Bio-Circular-Green Economy). This also includes shifting the business model from Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) to Original Design Manufacturer (ODM) with proprietary brands, while elevating SMEs to Smart SMEs under the 4GO policy: Go Digital & AI for utilizing digital systems in business, Go Innovation for increased access to innovation and research, Go Global to promote production and export of goods abroad, and Go Green to prepare for sustainable organizational development or ESG.
Moreover, FTI proposes three main strategies to support the survival of the Thai industry: increasing productivity, risk management, and development towards sustainability.
