On October 20, 2026, the FTI and TCEB signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on "Driving Thailand's Target Industries Through the MICE Industry Mechanism" at the FTI. Ms. Pimjai Leeissaranukul, the Chairman of the FTI, and Dr. Suphawan Teerarat, the Director of TCEB, signed the document to set the framework for cooperation in utilizing MICE as a mechanism to support the country's target industries and develop projects that align with industry potential and operator needs.
Ms. Pimjai Leeissaranukul, Chairman of the FTI, stated that this cooperation merges the strengths of both organizations, with the FTI having a network of over 16,000 operators covering 48 industry sectors and 76 provincial industrial councils. Meanwhile, TCEB has expertise in promoting the MICE industry, which will help open wider channels for Thai operators to access markets, buyers, investors, and business partners.
"Thailand has the potential to be more than just a destination for events; it can serve as a hub connecting buyers, investors, experts, and operators from around the world. Therefore, we must ensure that MICE activities generate tangible business outcomes, including new partnerships, business negotiation values, exports, and investments, rather than merely achieving success in organizing events," Ms. Pimjai stated.
The jewelry and gemstone industry is a prime example of a Thai industry with the potential to expand into international markets, with exports from January to August 2026 valued at 21.277 billion USD, reflecting a 20% increase compared to the previous year, showcasing opportunities to utilize MICE mechanisms to promote market access and create business networks for target industries.
For 2027, which marks the 60th anniversary of the FTI, both organizations plan to extend their collaboration through regional events and exhibitions by selecting target industries that align with the strengths and potential of each area, aiming to increase trade opportunities and link Thai operators with high-potential markets.
Mr. Narongrit Phanichewa, Vice Chairman of the FTI and Chairman, Member Relations, stated that the FTI emphasizes a Member-Centric approach, placing members at the center by addressing their needs in developing services and creating business opportunities. Therefore, collaboration with TCEB aims to go beyond merely participating in events but actively designing projects and activities from inception to align with the potential and needs of each industry.
"Our goal is to ensure members can genuinely access opportunities, from opening new markets and meeting foreign buyers to business matching and accessing funding sources, knowledge, technology, and partners that enhance their business. This MOU is significant in linking business opportunities with the development of operators' potential to strengthen competitiveness and support sustainable growth simultaneously," Mr. Narongrit said.
The framework for cooperation under the MOU covers four key areas:
1. Setting directions and frameworks for cooperation to drive the country’s target industries through the MICE mechanism.
2. Developing business projects and activities, such as conferences, exhibitions, trade shows, business matching, and new-formed activities to create trade, investment, and business networking opportunities both domestically and internationally.
3. Promoting the abilities of Thai operators, especially SMEs, to access markets, funding sources, knowledge, technology, innovations, and business partners.
4. Integrating and exchanging data, including knowledge, research, statistics, and market trends, to plan and develop projects in line with the needs of the industrial sector.
Dr. Suphawan Teerarat, Director of TCEB, stated that under the concept "Combining the Power of MICE x INDUSTRY for a New Chapter in Driving the Thai Economy", TCEB aims to elevate the role of MICE as a mechanism for connecting people, facilitating knowledge access to the market, and creating business networks to yield results meeting the needs of businesses of all sizes in trade, investment, innovation, and concrete business collaborations. This is not limited to domestic business sectors but extends to incorporate partnerships between Thai businesses and foreign companies. As TCEB plays the role of a National Bidder and positions Thailand as Global Asia's Trusted Gateway, it is ready to attract and support high-value events from abroad to serve as platforms for Thai businesses to negotiate collaborations with foreign businesses.
"When TCEB, as a government organization, integrates its roles at both national and international levels with expertise in MICE, it creates a powerful partnership with the FTI’s industry network. This enables us to attract and develop events that directly address each industry’s needs, benefitting all sizes of businesses nationwide. TCEB has 16 MICE cities across all regions, and the FTI has members nationwide. The meetings, exhibitions, innovations, business matching, and new activities that will emerge will serve as platforms generating results that drive economic growth and the distribution of economic opportunities, bolstering the Thai economy and instilling confidence in the international community to engage in business in Thailand," Dr. Suphawan added.
Furthermore, both organizations will use data and market trends to guide the design and development of projects based on a data-driven industry approach, while monitoring and evaluating the outcomes of activities concretely, alongside promoting a Green Industry and environmentally friendly MICE events (Sustainable Events) through efficient resource use, waste reduction, and greenhouse gas emissions to support sustainable growth of the industrial sector.
Thus, the collaboration between the FTI and TCEB marks another significant step in linking the Thai industrial sector with global markets and business networks, aiming to use the MICE mechanism as a tool to create trade and investment opportunities while reinforcing the strength of Thai operators for sustainable growth.
