เมื่อวันที่ 18 มีนาคม 2567 นายเกรียงไกร เธียรนุกุล ประธานสภาอุตสาหกรรมแห่งประเทศไทย (ส.อ.ท.) พร้อมด้วยนายมนตรี มหาพฤกษ์พงศ์ นายอรินทร์ จิรา ดร.นิลสุวรรณ ลีลารัศมี รองประธาน ส.อ.ท. และนายนาวา จันทนสุรคน กรรมการบริหาร ส.อ.ท. ร่วมให้การต้อนรับ H.E. Mr. Patricio Powell Osorio เอกอัครราชทูตชิลีประจำประเทศไทย พร้อมด้วยคณะทูตจากสถานทูตฯ และผู้แทนสภาธุรกิจไทย-ชิลี เนื่องในโอกาสเข้ารับตำแหน่งใหม่ ณ ห้องมงคลสุธี ส.อ.ท.
นายเกรียงไกร ได้แสดงความยินดีกับเอกอัครราชทูตฯ เนื่องในโอกาสรับตำแหน่งใหม่ พร้อมทั้งได้แนะนำบทบาทของ ส.อ.ท. ภายใต้นโยบาย ONE FTI และบทบาทของสภาธุรกิจไทย-ลาตินอเมริกา ซึ่งเป็นกลไกของภาคเอกชนในการส่งเสริมการค้าการลงทุนระหว่างไทยกับกลุ่มประเทศลาตินอเมริกาและแคริบเบียนให้มากยิ่งขึ้น โดยทั้งสองฝ่ายเห็นว่าการค้าระหว่างกันยังมีโอกาสขยายตัวได้อีกมาก ผ่านการใช้ประโยชน์จากข้อตกลงการค้าเสรี (FTA) อย่างเต็มที่ โดยชิลีเป็นหนึ่งในเป้าหมายสำคัญของนโยบายตลาดใหม่ของไทยในลาตินอเมริกาและแคริบเบียน โดยในปี 2566 ทั้งสองประเทศมีมูลค่าการค้ารวมกว่า 1 พันล้านดอลลาร์สหรัฐ
ทั้งนี้ จะมุ่งเน้นการการค้าและแสวงหาความร่วมมือในสาขาใหม่ อาทิ แบตเตอรี่ลิเธียม การพัฒนารถยนต์พลังงานไฟฟ้า และเทคโนโลยีไฮโดรเจน ซึ่งในช่วงหลายปีที่ผ่านมารัฐบาลชิลีได้มีมาตรการส่งเสริมการค้า การลงทุนโครงสร้างพื้นฐาน และแก้ไขกฎระเบียบการดำเนินงานที่เกี่ยวข้องกับพลังงานสะอาดและเป็นมิตรต่อสิ่งแวดล้อมมากขึ้น
นอกจากนี้ ประเทศไทยและชิลีมีความตกลงการค้าเสรีไทย – ชิลี (Thailand – Chile Free Trade Agreement: TCFTA) ซึ่งเป็นกลไกสำคัญของความร่วมมือทางเศรษฐกิจระหว่างกัน โดยในปี 2566 อัตราภาษีนำเข้าสินค้าทุกรายการภายใต้ TCFTA ได้ลดลงเหลือร้อยละ 0 และในส่วนของภาคเอกชนได้จัดตั้งสภาธุรกิจไทย – ชิลี และสภาธุรกิจชิลี – ไทย ซึ่งมีความสัมพันธ์ที่แน่นแฟ้นกับสมาคมผู้ประกอบการด้านอุตสาหกรรมชิลี (Sociedad de Fomento Fabril – SOFOFA) ซึ่งต่างเป็นกลไกส่งเสริมความร่วมมือระหว่างภาคเอกชนทั้งสองฝ่ายอีกด้วย
On March 18, 2024, Mr. Kriangkrai Theeranukul, Chairman of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), along with Mr. Montree Mahapruetpong, Mr. Arin Jira, Dr. Nilsuwan Leelarasmi, Vice Chairmen of FTI, and Mr. Nawa Janthanasurakhan, FTI Executive Board Member, welcomed H.E. Mr. Patricio Powell Osorio, the Chilean Ambassador to Thailand, along with a delegation from the embassy and representatives from the Thai-Chile Business Council on the occasion of his new appointment at the Mongkolsuthee Room of FTI.
Mr. Kriangkrai extended his congratulations to the Ambassador on his new position and introduced the role of FTI under the ONE FTI policy and the role of the Thai-Latin America Business Council, which serves as a mechanism of the private sector to promote trade and investment between Thailand and Latin America and the Caribbean. Both parties acknowledged that there remains significant potential for expanding trade through the full utilization of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA), with Chile being one of the key targets of Thailand's new market policy in Latin America and the Caribbean. In 2023, the total trade value between the two countries exceeded 1 billion US dollars.
The focus will be on trade and seeking cooperation in new sectors, such as lithium batteries, electric vehicle development, and hydrogen technology. In recent years, the Chilean government has implemented measures to promote trade, investment in infrastructure, and to reform regulations concerning clean and environmentally friendly energy.
Additionally, Thailand and Chile have the Thailand-Chile Free Trade Agreement (TCFTA), which serves as an essential mechanism for economic cooperation between the two. In 2023, the import tariff rates on all items under the TCFTA were reduced to 0%. Furthermore, the private sector has established the Thai-Chile Business Council and the Chile-Thailand Business Council, which maintain strong relations with the Chilean Industrialists' Association (Sociedad de Fomento Fabril – SOFOFA), both of which are mechanisms to enhance cooperation between the two private sectors.
