On Monday, June 29, 2026, Mr. Suwatch Supakarndejakul, Vice President of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) and Chairman of the Automotive Industry Group, along with Mr. Surapong Paisithpanpong, Advisor to the Chairman of the Automotive Industry Group and spokesperson for the FTI's Automotive Industry Group, disclosed the production figures, domestic sales, and exports of cars and motorcycles in May 2026, stating that Thailand produced 114,214 vehicles, representing a decrease of 17.94% due to a slowdown in exports, particularly to the Middle East which was affected by conflict situations. However, domestic car sales increased by 10.60%, and electric vehicle (BEV) sales grew by 61.19%, resulting in domestic production exceeding exports for the first time, reflecting continuous growth in the domestic market.

Production
The total number of vehicles produced in May 2026 was 114,214 units, which is a decrease of 17.94% from May 2025 due to a 26.66% decrease in passenger car production and a 38.79% decrease in pickup truck production, leading to an overall reduction in production for export by 36.20%, despite a 12.78% increase in production for domestic sale. Consequently, the total production volume decreased by 17.94%, marking the first time that production for domestic sale surpassed production for export, which was negatively impacted by the war in the Middle East, a key market accounting for 21% of all Thai automotive exports, with 200,001 units exported in 2025.

The total number of vehicles produced from January to May 2026 was 587,759 units, a decrease of 1.13% from January to May 2025.

In May 2026, sedan production totaled 47,407 units, a 12.43% decrease from May 2025, categorized as follows:
• Internal Combustion Engine Sedans: 14,019 units, a decline of 44.39% from May 2025.
• Battery Electric Vehicle Sedans: 6,185 units, a decline of 3.53% from May 2025.
• Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle Sedans: 4,197 units, an increase of 128.47% from May 2025.
• Hybrid Electric Vehicle Sedans: 23,006 units, an increase of 11.27% from May 2025.

The production of sedans from January to May 2026 amounted to 204,006 units, representing 34.71% of total production, a decrease of 4.51% from January to May 2025, categorized as follows:
• Internal Combustion Engine Sedans: 74,421 units, down 18.85% from January to May 2025.
• Battery Electric Vehicle Sedans: 21,396 units, up 4.40% from January to May 2025.
• Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle Sedans: 10,748 units, up 11.73% from January to May 2025.
• Hybrid Electric Vehicle Sedans: 97,441 units, up 6.12% from January to May 2025.

No production of passenger vehicles below or above 10 tons occurred in May 2026, nor from January to May 2026.

In May 2026, a total of 66,807 trucks were produced, a decrease of 21.45% from May 2025, and from January to May 2026, a total of 383,753 units were produced, an increase of 0.76% from January to May 2025.

In May 2026, a total of 65,314 one-ton pickup trucks were produced, a decrease of 22.68% from May 2025, and from January to May 2026, a total of 376,604 units were produced, representing 64.07% of total production, a slight decrease of 0.16% from January to May 2025, categorized as follows:
• Pickup trucks: 61,939 units, an increase of 2.46% from January to May 2025.
• Double Cab Pickup Trucks: 234,920 units, a decrease of 3.09% from January to May 2025.
• Double Cab Pickup BEVs: 1,831 units, an increase of 3968.89% from January to May 2025.
• PPVs: 77,914 units, an increase of 4.88% from January to May 2025.

For trucks under 5 tons to over 10 tons, 1,493 units were produced in May 2026, representing an increase of 159.20% year-on-year. Cumulatively, from January to May 2026, 7,149 units have been produced, an increase of 95.49% from January to May 2025.

For exports
In May 2026, 55,694 units were produced for export, accounting for 48.76% of total production, down 36.20% from May 2025, whereas from January to May 2026, 372,299 units were produced for export, representing 63.34% of total production, down 4.56% from the same period in 2025.

Passenger cars produced for export in May 2026 totaled 13,661 units, a decrease of 4.96% from May 2025. From January to May 2026, a total of 81,636 units were produced for export, representing 40.01% of total passenger car production, an increase of 11.65% compared to January to May 2025.

One-ton pickups produced for export in May 2026 totaled 42,033 units, a decrease of 38.79% from May 2025. Cumulatively, from January to May 2026, 290,663 units were produced for export, accounting for 77.18% of total pickup truck production, which is a decrease of 8.30% from January to May 2025, categorized as follows:
• Pickup trucks: 30,856 units, down 14.46% from January to May 2025.
• Double Cab pickups: 202,626 units, down 8.58% from January to May 2025.
• PPVs: 57,181 units, down 3.53% from January to May 2025.

Production for domestic sale
In May 2026, 58,520 units were produced for domestic sale, representing 51.24% of total production, an increase of 12.78% from May 2025. From January to May 2026, 215,460 units were produced for sale locally, accounting for 36.66% of total production, which is an increase of 5.41% compared to January to May 2025.

Passenger cars produced for domestic sale in May 2026 totaled 33,746 units, a decrease of 4.96% compared to May 2025. From January to May 2026, 122,370 units were produced for local sale, representing 59.99% of total passenger car production, down 12.92% from the same period in 2025.

One-ton pickups produced for domestic sale in May 2026 totaled 23,281 units, an increase of 47.30% compared to May 2025. From January to May 2026, a total of 85,941 units were produced, accounting for 22.82% of total pickup production, an increase of 42.73% from January to May 2025, categorized as follows:
• Pickup trucks: 31,083 units, up 27.49% from January to May 2025.
• Double Cab pickups: 34,125 units, up 63.94% from January to May 2025.
• PPVs: 20,733 units, up 38.06% from January to May 2025.

Passenger vehicles below 10 tons and above 10 tons did not have any production in May 2026, nor from January to May 2026.

For trucks under 5 tons to over 10 tons, a total of 1,493 units were produced in May 2026, representing an increase of 159.20% year-on-year. Cumulatively, from January to May 2026, 7,149 units were produced, an increase of 95.49% from January to May 2025.

Motorcycles
In May 2026, a total of 230,691 motorcycles were produced, representing a 9.67% increase from May 2025, with 187,591 units as complete built units (CBU), a 5.80% rise from the previous year, and 43,100 units of motorcycle components (CKD), a 30.45% increase from last year.

The total motorcycle production from January to May 2026 was 1,048,117 units, a decrease of 1.53% compared to the previous year, with 836,824 units as complete built units (CBU), down 3.35% from the last year, and 211,293 units of motorcycle components (CKD), up 6.43% from the last year.

Sales
Domestic car sales for May 2026 totaled 57,765 units, an increase of 19.36% from April 2026, and a 10.60% increase from May 2025 due to higher sales of electric passenger cars and electric SUVs amidst rising oil prices caused by the Middle East conflict. Truck sales also increased as some companies resumed production after relocating their factories. Pickup sales saw a slight increase of only 0.21% from the same month last year due to tightened lending from financial institutions amidst slow domestic economic growth, with household debt remaining above 80% of GDP, weakening consumer purchasing power. The global economy remains at risk from international conflicts and trade wars.

Domestic sales could increase from the 153.558 billion baht investment in the first five months of this year, representing a 6.46% increase compared to the same period last year, alongside continuing growth in exports in May 2026, which were up 10.6% from last May, driven by the electric vehicle sales surge alongside persistently high oil prices. The Bank of Thailand has also revised its GDP growth forecast for Thailand to 2.3% this year, together with the government's policies aiming to reduce the cost of living for the public and stimulate the economy, particularly through foreign investments and Thai investors.

Sedan and passenger car sales totaled 40,907 units, representing 70.82% of total sales, an increase of 15.04% from the same month the previous year:
• Internal Combustion Engine Sedans: 8,435 units, representing 14.60% of total sales, down from the same period last year to 38.74%.
• Battery Electric Vehicle Sedans: 18,034 units, representing 31.22% of total sales, up from the same period last year to 61.19%.
• Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle Sedans: 1,663 units, representing 2.88% of total sales, an increase of 123.82% from the same month last year.
• Range-Extended Electric Vehicle Sedans: 73 units, representing 0.13% of total sales, up 100% from the same period last year.
• Hybrid Electric Vehicle Sedans: 12,702 units, representing 21.99% of total sales, up 28.82% from the same month last year.

Pickup trucks numbered 11,171 units, a slight increase of 0.21% year-on-year. Electric pickups (BEV) totaled 201 units, a 133.72% increase from the same month last year. REEV pickups totaled 5 units, which were not sold last year. HEV pickups totaled 4 units, which were not sold last year. PPVs accounted for 3,164 units, an increase of 2.10% year-on-year. Trucks between 5 – 10 tons totaled 1,496 units, an increase of 26.99% from the same month last year. Electric trucks (BEV) accounted for 35 units, which were not sold last year, while other vehicles numbered 782 units, a decrease of 32.47% from the same month last year.

In motorcycles, sales reached 169,724 units, up 23.89% from March 2026 and a 3.08% increase from May 2025.

From January to May 2026, car sales totalled 288,242 units, an increase of 14.10% from the previous year, categorized as follows:

Sedans and passenger vehicles totalled 197,935 units, representing 68.67% of total sales, an increase of 21.62% from the same month last year:
• Internal Combustion Engine Sedans: 46,321 units, representing 16.07% of total sales, down from the same month last year to 24.93%.
• Battery Electric Vehicle Sedans: 82,143 units, representing 28.50% of total sales, up 83.27% from the same month last year.
• Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle Sedans: 4,554 units, representing 1.58% of total sales, up 2.41% year-on-year.
• Range-Extended Electric Vehicle Sedans: 781 units, representing 0.27% of total sales, up 100% from the same period last year.
• Hybrid Electric Vehicle Sedans: 64,136 units, representing 22.25% of total sedan sales, an increase of 23.87% from the same month last year.

Pickup trucks numbered 59,265 units, down 5.13% from the same month last year. Electric pickups (BEV) totaled 695 units, up 168.34% year-on-year. REEV pickups totaled 12 units, no sales last year. HEV pickups number 210, which was not sold last year. PPVs amounted to 17,910 units, up 16.56% year-on-year. Trucks between 5 – 10 tons totaled 7,690 units, a 31.39% increase from the same month last year. Electric trucks (BEV) accounted for 71 units sold, which did not exist last year, while other vehicles totaled 4,454 units, down 24.80% from the same month last year.

In motorcycles, sales reached 775,325 units, an increase of 3.12% from January to May 2025.

Exports
In May 2026, a total of 59,434 complete vehicles were exported, a decline of 26.69%, as exports to the Middle East decreased by 66.14% due to the conflict between the United States and Iran. Meanwhile, exports to Australia-Oceania, a key market for Thailand, fell by 37.18% due to increased competition from electric vehicles from China and stricter carbon emission regulations on vehicles.

Nonetheless, internal combustion engines and components saw export gains as follows:
• Pickup trucks: 34,044 units, accounting for 57.28% of total exports, down 35.23% from 2025.
• Electric pickups (BEV): 44 units, accounting for 0.07% of total exports, up 100% from last year.
• Passenger cars (ICE): 6,170 units, accounting for 10.38% of total exports, down 48.39% from last year.
• Passenger cars (BEV): 1,410 units, accounting for 2.37% of total exports, with no exports last year.
• Passenger cars (PHEV): 332 units, accounting for 0.56% of total exports, with no exports last year.
• Passenger cars (HEV): 6,565 units, accounting for 11.05% of total exports, up 26.88% from last year.
• PPVs: 10,869 units, accounting for 18.29% of total exports, down 4.31% from last year.

The export value of vehicles reached 41,723.09 million baht, down 24.36% compared to May 2025, with changes in engine and component exports as follows:
• Engines, valued at 4,467.79 million baht, increased by 42.51% from May 2025.
• Other automotive components: 15,804.65 million baht, an increase of 0.33% from May 2025.
• Automotive parts valued at 2,044.20 million baht, decreased by 14.13% from May 2025.

The total export value of vehicles in May 2026, including engines, automotive parts, and accessories, reached 64,039.74 million baht, a decrease of 16.21% from May 2025.

For motorcycles
In May 2026, a total of 81,396 motorcycles were exported (including CBU + CKD), reflecting a 19.40% increase from April 2026 and a 21.39% increase from May 2025, with a total value of 5,477.92 million baht, an increase of 14.30% from May 2025.
• Motorcycle parts had an export value of 214.61 million baht, an increase of 5.23% from May 2025.
• Motorcycle accessories totalled 295.44 million baht, up 33.98% from May 2025.

The total export value of motorcycles in May 2026, including parts and accessories, reached 5,987.98 million baht, marking a 14.78% increase from May 2025.

In May 2026, the total export value of complete vehicles, engines, other components, automotive parts, motorcycles, components, and motorcycle parts reached 70,027.71 million baht, down 14.23% from 2025.

For complete vehicles
From January to May 2026, a total of 339,618 complete vehicles were exported, down 8.53% from the same period last year, categorized as follows:
• Pickup trucks: 210,459 units, accounting for 61.97% of total exports, down 12.31% from 2025.
• Electric pickups (BEV): 199 units, accounting for 0.06% of total exports, an increase of 804.55% from last year.
• Passenger cars (ICE): 31,329 units, accounting for 9.22% of total exports, down 41.61% from 2025.
• Passenger cars (BEV): 8,566 units, accounting for 2.52% of total exports, up 1,197.88% from last year.
• Passenger cars (PHEV): 981 units, accounting for 0.29% of total exports, with no exports in 2025.
• Passenger cars (HEV): 34,324 units, accounting for 10.11% of total exports, up 54.52% from 2025.
• PPVs: 53,760 units, accounting for 15.83% of total exports, down 1.75% from 2025.

The export value of complete vehicles reached 230,947.90 million baht, marking a 10.11% decrease from January to May 2025, detailed as follows:
• Engines valued at 16,403.16 million baht, up 8.13% from the previous year.
• Other automotive components valued at 75,283.33 million baht, down 4.35% from last year.
• Automotive accessories valued at 9,371.58 million baht, down 15.79% from last year.

In total, the export value of vehicles from January to May 2026, including engines, components, and accessories, reached 332,005.97 million baht, a decrease of 8.27% from the previous year.

Motorcycles
From January to May 2026, a total of 401,739 motorcycles were exported (including CBU + CKD), reflecting an 8.47% increase from 2025, with a value of 28,568.39 million baht, a 7.18% increase compared to last year.
• Motorcycle components had an export value of 942.09 million baht, an increase of 4.83% from last year.
• Motorcycle accessories had an export value of 1,249.17 million baht, an increase of 17.29% from the previous year.

The total export value of motorcycles from January to May 2026, including components and accessories, reached 30,759.64 million baht, an increase of 7.49% compared to January to May 2025.

In summary, from January to May 2026, the total export value of complete vehicles, engines, other components, automobile parts, motorcycles, components, and motorcycle parts reached 362,765.62 million baht, reflecting a decrease of 7.11% from the previous year.

  o Public motorcycles: 7 units.
• For motorcycles, there were 51 units, a decrease of 52.78% compared to the previous year, with personal motorcycles numbering 51 units.

From January to May 2026, accumulated newly registered electric vehicles (HEV) reached 75,909 units, a 24.86% increase compared to the previous year, divided as follows:
• Passenger vehicles and other types totaled 75,631 units, a 25.32% increase compared to January to May 2025:
