เมื่อวันที่ 21 สิงหาคม 2567 นายวิเชาวน์ รักพงษ์ไพโรจน์ รองประธานสภาอุตสาหกรรมแห่งประเทศไทย (ส.อ.ท.) และประธานสายงานต่างประเทศ พร้อมด้วยนายอสิ ตัณสถิตย์ รองประธาน ส.อ.ท. นายกิตติภัต สุทธิสัมพัทน์ กรรมการบริหาร ส.อ.ท. นายญาณพล ลิมปนะโชคชัย รองเลขาธิการ ส.อ.ท. และ ดร.ทวีสันต์ วิรัชพงศานนท์ กรรมการสายงานต่างประเทศ ร่วมให้การต้อนรับ H.E. Mr. Dhan Bahadur Oli เอกอัครราชทูตเนปาลประจำประเทศไทย และ Mr.Prakash Adhikari อัครราชทูตที่ปรึกษา เพื่อหารือความร่วมมือระหว่างภาคเอกชนไทย-เนปาล ณ ห้องมงคลสุธี ส.อ.ท.
การหารือครั้งนี้ ทั้งสองฝ่ายเห็นว่าทั้งสองประเทศควรส่งเสริมความร่วมมือระหว่างกันเพื่อพัฒนาศักยภาพอุตสาหกรรม โดยเนปาลต้องการมีความร่วมมือกับไทยในด้านการแลกเปลี่ยนกระบวนการผลิต อาทิ การพัฒนากระบวนการผลิตสินค้าเกษตรกรรม อุตสาหกรรมอาหาร การพัฒนาบรรจุภัณฑ์ และการสร้างแบรนด์ให้สินค้า โดย ส.อ.ท. ยินดีที่จะส่งเสริมกิจกรรม เพื่อแลกเปลี่ยนองค์ความรู้ภาคอุตสาหกรรม เพื่อพัฒนาภาคอุตสาหกรรมทั้งสองฝ่าย และสร้างโอกาสทางการค้าระหว่างภาคเอกชนไทย-เนปาลในอนาคต
ทั้งนี้ ในโอกาสที่ประเทศไทยเป็นเจ้าภาพจัดประชุมผู้นำบิมสเทค (BIMSTEC SUMMIT) ครั้งที่ 6 ในเดือนกันยายน 2567 โดยมีผู้นำกลุ่มประเทศ BIMSTEC เข้าร่วมการประชุมฯ นั้น ทางเนปาลและไทยเห็นควรที่จะใช้โอกาสจากความร่วมมือภายใต้กรอบความร่วมมือบิมสเทค เพื่อสร้างความร่วมมือระหว่างภาคเอกชนให้เป็นรูปธรรมต่อไป
BIMSTEC (The Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sector Technical and Economic Cooperation) หรือความริเริ่มแห่งอ่าวเบงกอลสำหรับความร่วมมือหลากหลายสาขาทางวิชาการและเศรษฐกิจ เป็นกรอบความร่วมมือระดับอนุภูมิภาคในอนุทวีปเอเชียใต้และเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ ปัจจุบันมีสมาชิกทั้งหมด 7 ประเทศ ได้แก่ บังกลาเทศ อินเดีย เมียนมา เนปาล ศรีลังกา ไทย และภูฏาน จัดตั้งขึ้นเพื่อต้องการให้ BIMSTEC เป็นศูนย์กลางความเชื่อมโยงทางเศรษฐกิจ
On August 21, 2024, Mr. Wichawann Rukphongphairoj, Vice Chairman of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) and Chairman of the International Affairs Division, along with Mr. Assa Tansathit, Vice Chairman of FTI, Mr. Kitti Phat Sutthisampat, Executive Board Member of FTI, Mr. Yannaphon Limpanachokchai, Deputy Secretary-General of FTI, and Dr. Tavisarn Wiratchapongsanan, Board Member of the International Affairs Division, welcomed H.E. Mr. Dhan Bahadur Oli, the Ambassador of Nepal to Thailand, and Mr. Prakash Adhikari, Minister Counselor, to discuss cooperation between the Thai and Nepalese private sectors at the Mongkol Suthi Room, FTI.
During this meeting, both parties agreed that both countries should promote cooperation to enhance industrial capabilities. Nepal expressed a desire to collaborate with Thailand on production process exchanges, such as the development of agricultural product production processes, food industry development, packaging development, and brand building for products. The FTI is willing to promote activities to exchange industrial knowledge to advance the industrial sectors of both parties and to create trade opportunities between the Thai and Nepalese private sectors in the future.
Additionally, as Thailand is set to host the 6th BIMSTEC Summit in September 2024, which will be attended by leaders from the BIMSTEC member countries, both Nepal and Thailand agreed to utilize the opportunities under the BIMSTEC cooperation framework to establish concrete cooperation between the private sectors going forward.
BIMSTEC (The Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sector Technical and Economic Cooperation) is a sub-regional cooperation framework in South Asia and Southeast Asia, currently comprising 7 member countries: Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Bhutan, established to make BIMSTEC a center for economic connectivity.
