Sales

Domestic sales of automobiles in April 2024 totaled 46,738 units, a decline of 16.69% from March 2024 and down 21.49% from the same month last year due to stricter vehicle loan approval processes by financial institutions and low economic growth, which has been impeded by delays in the implementation of the fiscal budget for 2024, leading to significant reductions in government investment spending and weakened purchasing power for consumers. Consequently, automobile sales fell by 21.49% year-on-year, ranking Thailand third behind Malaysia.

With the fiscal budget for 2024 now effective, it is hoped that the government will expedite disbursements and investments while also stimulating economic growth, as it has begun encouraging real estate purchases in April. The government is also urged to incentivize automobile purchases, particularly for internal combustion engine vehicles and pickups that utilize over 90% local components, supporting the numerous industries connected to this sector as much as the property sector, thereby increasing industrial production, enhancing employment opportunities, and enabling further tax revenues, including excise tax, value-added tax, and personal and corporate income taxes, leading to heightened economic growth.
