On October 16, 2026, Mr. Vichaow Rakphongphairoj, Vice Chairman of The Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) and Chairman of International Affairs, along with FTI executives, welcomed Ms. Helene Budliger Artieda, Secretary of State for Economic Affairs of the Swiss Confederation, and a delegation from the public and private sectors to discuss ways to promote cooperation in the economy, trade, investment, and industrial development between Thailand and Switzerland at the Passion (802) meeting room of FTI.
During the discussion, Ms. Helene stated that Thailand is one of Switzerland's key target markets for trade and investment, due to its readiness in terms of infrastructure, transportation systems, and strategic location connecting to the ASEAN market, which has the potential to serve as a production and investment base for Swiss companies. Furthermore, there are opportunities to expand collaboration in innovation, technology, and knowledge transfer to elevate the capabilities of the industrial sectors of both countries.
Both parties expressed satisfaction with the signing of the free trade agreement (Thailand–EFTA FTA), which is set to undergo preparation before taking effect, emphasizing the importance of promoting cooperation among private sectors to enable Thai entrepreneurs to fully prepare and take advantage of the agreement in terms of market expansion, increasing trade opportunities, and connecting investments with EFTA member countries.
Another important issue is the protection of intellectual property (Intellectual Property Protection: IP Protection), which is an element that helps build confidence among investors and supports innovation development. A comprehensive and effective intellectual property protection law, coupled with serious and concrete law enforcement, plays a significant role in promoting a business environment conducive to investment and long-term industrial cooperation.
In addition, the presence of representatives from leading Swiss companies and organizations such as Nestlé, Roche, Swissmem, SIFEM, and Novartis reflects the opportunity to connect private sector networks across various fields including food and beverages, pharmaceuticals, machinery and industrial technology, as well as investment for development, which can lead to cooperation in trade, investment, human resource development, and technology transfer.
