Bangkok, November 5, 2026 — The Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) is preparing to join a delegation of Thai public and private sectors led by Mr. Aekniti Nititanprapas, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, along with the Board of Investment (BOI) in visiting Japan from November 18-20, 2026, to promote investment and technology cooperation. This visit will also coordinate with the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) to expand discussions in potential industries under the concept of Reinvent Thailand, aiming to elevate Thailand's existing industrial base to access new markets and higher-value businesses.
Mrs. Pimjai Leeissaranukul, Chairman of The Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), stated that this trip represents an important opportunity to enhance the long-standing ties in Thai-Japanese industry to drive Reinvent Thailand through four main pillars: Future Industries, Future Businesses, Future Cities, and Future Workforce. The goal is not just to attract new industries to invest but also to uplift existing producers and open new markets for Thai entrepreneurs, particularly SMEs.
"Reinvent Thailand is not about starting new industries from scratch, but rather leveraging the strengths that Thailand already possesses to connect with future technologies and markets. Japan has been a long-term partner in developing Thailand's industrial base, making this a significant opportunity to build on that cooperation to create new products, businesses, and added value," Mrs. Pimjai said.
*Expanding Cross-Industry Cooperation to Open New Markets for Thai Producers*
The FTI emphasizes the importance of utilizing Thai-Japanese cooperation to expand opportunities across various industries, particularly linking the existing manufacturing base with future industries, such as:
The Automotive Industry to the Space Industry — Besides upgrading the automotive production base and components to support new technologies, the FTI also aims to explore opportunities for connecting Thai automotive parts manufacturers with the supply chain of the space industry, leveraging precision manufacturing capabilities along with the necessary standards, technologies, and certifications.
Smart Electronics — Building on the Thai electrical and electronics industry to meet the growing demands from Data Centers, AI, Smart Grids, and smart appliances, while aiming to connect Thai manufacturers with technologies and supply chains of global companies, as well as seeking investments in lacking components and technologies.
Food Valley and High-Value Food Industry — Expanding cooperation in food technology, processing, product innovation, and adding value to agricultural raw materials to upgrade Thailand's food industry and create opportunities to access new markets.
Creative Economy — Building on the potential in content creation, gemstones, jewelry, and creative works by emphasizing Japan's experience in characters, design, and value creation from intellectual properties (IP), including applying AI to enhance productivity and develop new businesses.
The further discussions that the FTI coordinates with JETRO will help expand the mission's dimensions from promoting investment to connecting industries and developing businesses, as a cooperative agenda currently under push, not yet an announcement of investment agreements.
*Connecting Japanese Technology to Create Opportunities for SMEs Nationwide*
The FTI views the advantage of Thai-Japanese cooperation as stemming from a long-standing network of production and connected entrepreneurs across the automotive, machinery, electronics, and supporting industries, which can be leveraged towards new technologies and markets.
An important strategy is to connect the demands of Japanese companies with the potential of Thai manufacturers to identify opportunities for product and component development, elevate standards, match businesses, and seek investments or technologies that are still lacking, aiming to enhance opportunities for SMEs from all regions to access industrial networks and global markets.
Furthermore, importance is placed on developing personnel skills, digital technologies, automation, and robotics, as well as improving energy efficiency to ensure a continuous transition of the industry.
"This trip is not just about seeking new investments; it is about creating new opportunities for industries that Thailand already possesses. We want the cooperation with Japan to help open new markets, elevate technologies, and enable Thai operators, especially SMEs, to grow alongside future industries. This is the essence of Reinvent Thailand," Mrs. Pimjai concluded.
