ส.อ.ท. ร่วมประชุมคณะทำงานด้านการเกษตรและอุตสาหกรรมเกษตร ครั้งที่ 19 ยกระดับเกษตรยั่งยืนในอนุภูมิภาคFTI Participates in the 19th Working Group on Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry Enhancing Sustainable Agriculture in the Subregion

On July 22, 2026, Mr. Akharin Wongapirat, Vice Chairman of the Southern Industrial Council, and Mr. Surachart Chao-watana, Vice Chairman of the Saw Mill and Wood Drying Industry Group and a committee member of the Southern Industrial Council of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), as representatives of the IMT-GT Business Council, attended the 19th IMT-GT Working Group on Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry (WGAA) Meeting held in Medan, North Sumatra, Indonesia, as well as via online conference.

This meeting aimed to focus on tracking the outcomes of significant projects from the 19th IMT-GT Strategic Planning Meeting (SPM). Thailand presented key projects related to sustainability and greenhouse gas reduction, including the expansion and pilot implementation of agroforestry systems for value-added products, such as rubber and palm oil, under carbon credit mechanisms. This agenda is strategically significant for creating alternative income sources for farmers in the subregion while conserving the environment, as well as considering collaborative approaches for replicating specific fishery management models in flooded swamp ecosystems with Indonesia and Malaysia.

Furthermore, the meeting also aimed to support and promote collaboration among government, private sector, and educational institutions within the IMT-GT member countries. This collaboration is intended to advance the subregion triangle of economic development between Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand to become a "center for safe food and sustainable high-value agricultural industry" at an international level.

The next 20th Working Group on Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry (WGAA) Meeting under the IMT-GT program is scheduled for 2027, where Malaysia will officially host the meeting.
