On Tuesday, November 25, 2025, the GS1 Institute, Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), organized its annual general meeting for 2025 under the theme 'GS1 Barcodes Connecting the World, Connecting Us to Global Trade' to reflect the role of international barcode standards in driving the Thai industry and enhancing the country's competitiveness amidst rapidly changing digital economies at the Royal Maneeya Ballroom, M Floor, Renaissance Hotel, Bangkok, Ratchaprasong.

Mr. Kriangkrai Theeranukul, Chairman of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), stated that FTI aims to elevate industries from traditional sectors (First Industries) to future industries (Next-Gen Industries) through the '4 GO' approach: GO Digital & AI to enhance manufacturing with digital technology and artificial intelligence, GO Innovation to nurture 'small but mighty' entrepreneurs through innovation, GO Global to develop Thai products and services for the global market, and GO Green to drive industries towards sustainability and Net Zero by 2050. All these are crucial foundations for enhancing the country’s competitive capabilities.

In 2025, the world faces increased geopolitical uncertainties, ranging from trade wars, the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the Middle East situation, to Thai-Cambodian border issues. This has widely impacted international supply chains; therefore, having a reliable data system is vital for competition. Thus, GS1 Thailand plays a critical role as a Data Infrastructure that enables Thai entrepreneurs to manage their products effectively, linking all processes from upstream to downstream in the data-driven trading environment. FTI is ready to serve as a mediator to foster collaboration among all sectors to promote the widespread adoption of GS1 international standards in the Thai industry, helping the industrial sector overcome challenges, create new opportunities, and firmly step into a leadership role in the regional and global economy and industry.

Dr. Komsan Laosilpjaeun, Vice Chairman of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) and President of the GS1 Institute (GS1 Thailand), stated that GS1 Thailand has been operating in Thailand for over 37 years as a non-profit organization under FTI, with a primary mission to officially issue barcode numbers according to the GS1 international standards in Thailand. Furthermore, it supports organizations and entrepreneurs to use GS1 international standards for product, asset, and location identification clearly and traceably. The GS1 international standards are vital tools that help promote the Thai business and industry sectors to operate efficiently, currently usable in over 150 countries worldwide, affirming the reliability and importance of these international standards in enhancing the competitiveness of Thai businesses, building consumer confidence, and supporting stable entry into the global market.

This year, GS1 Thailand organized the annual general meeting for 2025 under the theme 'GS1 Barcodes Connecting the World, Connecting Us to Global Trade' to report on significant operational results, such as 1) A project promoting knowledge on GS1 international barcode standards to enhance the capabilities of entrepreneurs and elevate the standards of Thai products for provincial commerce officials of the Ministry of Commerce through training on GS1 international barcode standards in 5 regions across 6 provinces: Nakhon Si Thammarat, Chonburi, Bangkok, Khon Kaen, Ubon Ratchathani, and Chiang Mai; 2) A project promoting the application of GS1 international 2D barcodes through cooperation and training with government and private organizations; 3) A project collaborating with the retail and wholesale industry to provide barcode quality verification services for traders before goods enter storage to improve warehouse management efficiency; and 4) The GS1 Thailand Roadshow 2025 across 5 regions in collaboration with partners and GS1 Partners in provinces such as Lampang, Loei, Krabi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, and Nakhon Pathom.

Additionally, during the event, esteemed experts from three main divisions of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Ministry of Public Health, including the Medical Device Control Division, Drug Division, and Narcotic Control Division, shared critical information for entrepreneurs to prepare and comply with policies and standards of regulatory agencies in terms of applying GS1 standards to medical devices, developing drug data systems, and tracking high-risk products, along with recommendations and guidelines to assist entrepreneurs in managing their products efficiently, safely, and in compliance with government policies, as well as being competitive in the global market. Furthermore, there was a knowledge-sharing forum beneficial to the institute's members, activities to participate and win special prizes, and partner booths from the institute providing free advice to members.
