On September 15, 2025, the Climate Change Institute (CCI) under the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) held the inaugural academic seminar “Climate Change Forum 2025: Driving towards Net Zero” at M Tower, Sukhumvit Road, Bangkok. The purpose of the event was to serve as a platform for exchanging knowledge, practices, and innovations regarding climate change among businesses, government agencies, academic institutions, and related stakeholders.

The event was honored by the presence of Mr. Pawit Kasuwong, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Climate Change and Environmental Quality, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, and Mr. Teeratad Isarangkun Na Ayudhya, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Industrial Works, Ministry of Industry, who participated in the opening ceremony.

Mr. Pawit Kasuwong, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Climate Change and Environmental Quality, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, delivered a keynote speech on “Policies for Sustainability and Net Zero.” He discussed the global warming situation and the increasing severity of disasters both worldwide and in Thailand, pointing out that human greenhouse gas emissions are the main issues that all countries must urgently address. Thailand is committed to the Paris Agreement and is seriously striving towards the goal of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions (Net Zero). The Thai government has set the NDC 3.0 targets and the LT-LEDS strategy to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 and net-zero by 2065, in addition to promoting the draft Climate Change Act and the Climate Fund to support investments and green innovations. Achieving the Net Zero target requires cooperation from all sectors, including government, private sector, academia, and the general public, to create sustainable development that leaves no one behind and transforms environmental challenges into new economic opportunities for the country.

Meanwhile, Mr. Teeratad Isarangkun Na Ayudhya, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Industrial Works, Ministry of Industry, delivered a speech on “Industrial Development Policies for Sustainability.” He stated that the Thai industrial sector faces pressures from international environmental measures, such as the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and the EU Regulation on Deforestation-free Products (EUDR), necessitating a shift towards environmentally friendly production methods. The Ministry of Industry is advancing the Green Industry and BCG Economy policies to reduce impacts and foster sustainability.

The Department of Industrial Works aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 5.4 million tons by 2030 through key measures including reducing clinker use in cement, changing refrigerants, and wastewater management, along with international cooperation projects to phase out ozone-depleting substances and greenhouse gases.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Industry reaffirmed its commitment to developing Thai industry towards Green Industry, linking it with the global economy and steadily pursuing carbon-low and net-zero goals in the future.

Mr. Kittipong Limsuwanna-rot, Executive Board Member and Chair of the Climate Change Pillar of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), stated that the establishment of CCI aims to be a center for knowledge and cooperation regarding climate change in the Thai industrial sector, connecting policy, technology, and building capacity for entrepreneurs to adapt to a low-carbon economy. The Climate Change Forum 2025 is the first of its kind reflecting this role and emphasizes that although the Thai industrial sector is facing risks from international environmental measures, such as the CBAM of the European Union, which could impact exports up to 300 billion Baht per year, there are opportunities in the green business that can add 10-20% value to products and enhance competitiveness in the global market sustainably.

One of the highlights of the event was the Climate Change Award ceremony, honoring organizations with outstanding performance in Climate Action, with a total of 64 awards divided into 5 categories:
•  Climate Action Excellence: 22 awards
•  Climate Action Leader: 22 awards
•  Climate Action Initiator: 12 awards
•  Outstanding Contribution: 1 award
•  Certificate of Climate Commitment: 7 awards

The award recipients are exemplary models in guiding their organizations towards sustainability and reflect the collective commitment of the Thai industrial sector in driving towards the goal of net-zero greenhouse gas emissions.

Additionally, there were parallel discussion panels on two topics: “Finance & Partnership for Green Transition,” focusing on green finance and building partnerships for transition, and “Net Zero Mission: Inspiration through Innovation towards Implementation,” which presented innovations and solutions for sustainable growth, featuring experts from the Office of the GHG Management Organization, the Stock Exchange of Thailand, and the Energy Regulatory Commission. Moreover, a Climate Change Clinic was available as a specialized consulting space provided by experts from various institutions under the Innovation and Sustainable Development group and other agencies under FTI to assist entrepreneurs in applying knowledge effectively.

Thus, the CCI Forum 2025 marks a significant first step reflecting CCI's role as a center for connecting knowledge, technology, and policy approaches to support the Thai industrial sector towards a low-carbon economy and net-zero goals. The FTI intends to develop this event into a regular forum to enhance its driving force and leadership role in elevating the competitive capability and sustainable growth of the country.
