From Negotiation to Action: Lessons from the Trump Tariff Talks ร่วมกับ ดร.
On August 18, 2025, Mr. Kriangkrai Tiennukul, Chairman of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), participated as a speaker in the seminar titled "Trump Tax: A Major Challenge for the Thai Economy Post-Negotiation" under the topic "From Negotiation to Action: Lessons from the Trump Tariff Talks" alongside Dr. Poch Araamwattananon, Chairman of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, and Mr. Payong Sriwichai, President of the Thai Bankers' Association. The seminar was honored to be opened by Mr. Mongkol Surasatcha, President of the Senate, at the meeting room B1 – 1 of the Parliament building.
During the discussion, Mr. Kriangkrai congratulated the “Team Thailand” for successfully negotiating the reduction of import taxes on Thai products from the United States from 36% to 19%, making it competitive compared to neighboring ASEAN countries. This aids in enhancing the export potential of Thai entrepreneurs, particularly in industries where Thailand holds a competitive advantage. Meanwhile, labor-intensive industries must continue to adapt, reduce costs, and improve production efficiency to maintain competitiveness in the U.S. market.
In terms of investment, the reduction of taxes to acceptable levels also helps build confidence among foreign investors. This is evident from the investments through the Board of Investment (BOI) in the first half of 2025, which have expanded significantly compared to the previous year and are expected to continue growing in the second half. The FTI believes that this tax reduction not only enhances export potential but also serves as a crucial stimulus to ensure that Thailand remains an attractive manufacturing hub for the region.
