On Wednesday, July 16, 2025, Dr. Khomsan Laisilpjaerng, Vice President of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) and Chairman of GS1 Thailand, along with Mr. Pisith Rangsaritwutikul, Director of GS1 Thailand, and members of the institute's committee, welcomed Mr. Renaud de Barbuat, Chief Executive Officer of GS1 Global, to discuss the development of data infrastructure to support industries in the digital age, the promotion of traceability systems, and the application of GS1 standards in the Thai business sector at the Sahapat Meeting Room (GS1-1), 11th floor of FTI.

Dr. Khomsan Laisilpjaerng, Vice President of FTI and Chairman of GS1 Thailand, stated, “GS1 Thailand has been responsible for managing the international barcode system of GS1 in Thailand for over 37 years. We are pleased to contribute to ensuring that Thai product information can be traced back in case there are issues concerning consumer health safety or other quality concerns, especially for food and beverage products, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and medical devices. The international GS1 barcode system acts as a common language that enables Thai entrepreneurs to connect with global businesses effectively, utilizing accurate, transparent, and reliable data under the same standards. Furthermore, this system plays a crucial role in enhancing business efficiency and elevating the competitiveness of the Thai industry on the global stage.”

Mr. Renaud de Barbuat, Chief Executive Officer of GS1, added, “Quality data is the foundation of trust for brands and businesses. Product information in each category must be accurate, transparent, and traceable. The international standards system of GS1 effectively addresses these needs. My visit to Thailand has shown me the strong cooperation between government, private sectors, and GS1 Thailand in driving the country’s economy through the effective application of the international GS1 barcode system. During his visit to Thailand, Mr. Renaud met with officials from both government and private sectors, including the Industrial Standards Institute (ISO), the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Professional Qualification Institute (Public Organization), representatives of Thai entrepreneurs, and PTE. Han Engineering Solutions Public Company Limited, a partner of GS1 Thailand, to exchange knowledge and discuss the development of international standard technologies for businesses and industries in Thailand. Additionally, he participated in the “GS1 International Barcode Knowledge Promotion Project for Enhancing Entrepreneurs’ Potential and Upgrading Thai Product Standards, Batch 7/2025 (Train the Trainer 2025)” held at The Empress Hotel in Chiang Mai. This project aims to provide knowledge regarding the use of GS1 standard barcodes to officials from provincial commerce offices under the Ministry of Commerce in 17 northern provinces, along with local private entrepreneurs. Experts from retail chains were also invited to share knowledge about the criteria for placing products in retail outlets and selling products online. GS1 Thailand has been implementing this project for the third consecutive year, educating over 900 officials from related agencies, including officials from the Industrial Promotion Center, Ministry of Industry, the Community Development Department, Ministry of the Interior, and entrepreneurs nationwide.

GS1 Thailand operates under the supervision of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) and serves as the official registrar of barcode numbers according to international GS1 standards in Thailand. It supports and promotes the adoption of the GS1 international standard system, which has clear practices for identifying products, assets, and specific locations for uniquely identifying items globally that are traceable, allowing stakeholders throughout the supply chain to access accurate, fast, and automated data.
