On Thursday, July 3, 2025, the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) in collaboration with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) held a press conference entitled "Health and Beauty Products Industry Index." The event was honored by Mr. Kosit Suvanijjit, Advisor to the Minister of Public Health, who delivered the opening speech, alongside Mr. Nakarn Tewichawat, Chairman of the Health and Beauty Industry Cluster at FTI, and Dr. Surachok Tangviwat, Secretary-General of the FDA, who jointly presented to clarify the Health and Beauty Products Industry Index and discuss collaborative approaches between the two organizations at the main conference room, 10th floor of the FDA building.

The organization of the press conference "Health and Beauty Products Industry Index" follows the event held on March 4, 2025, where Mr. Somsak Thepsuthin, Minister of Public Health, and Mr. Kriangkiat Thiennukun, Chairman of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), jointly announced the collaboration between the Ministry of Public Health and FTI to discuss guidelines for driving and promoting Thailand's health economy and addressing legal obstacles affecting business operations. They also deliberated on strategies to promote industries related to the health and beauty sector to stimulate the economy and investment in the country, leading to the promotion of Thailand as a hub for research, development, and production of innovative health products through collaboration in three areas: the promotion of health economy development policies, the establishment of public-private partnership mechanisms, and the formulation of the Health Products Industry Index.

Mr. Kosit Suvanijjit, Advisor to the Minister of Public Health, revealed that the overall outlook of the health and beauty products industry in 2024 shows continuous growth, particularly in sectors related to elderly health care, health tourism, and health-oriented food and beverage businesses. This aligns with the Ministry of Public Health's policies, which are ready to promote these industries through seven policies on health economy to increase economic valuations of over 690 billion Baht in 2025, contributing to the country’s GDP. Innovative health products that are of high quality and internationally recognized will effectively support the drive of health economy policies.

Mr. Nakarn Tewichawat, Chairman of the Health and Beauty Industry Cluster of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), further stated that the FTI has established a Health and Beauty Industry Cluster consisting of seven industry groups: pharmaceuticals, food and beverages, medical device and health producers, herbal products, cosmetics, dietary supplements, and biotechnology. These sectors will work together to make Thailand the health economy hub of ASEAN by developing the related supply chains of health products, from raw material development to finished products, in order to increase product value and elevate the competitiveness of entrepreneurs.

It is projected that in 2025, the production and export of goods in the health and beauty products industry will grow approximately 10%, supported by advancements towards a comprehensive medical industry and the international health hub (Medical Hub) and fueled by factors such as the aging society, increasing health care demands, and the trend of health tourism. However, challenges remain due to rising production costs, regional competition, and funding constraints.

Dr. Surachok Tangviwat, Secretary-General of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), added that the FDA is ready to continually promote and support the industrial sector under the government's Medical Hub policy to develop innovative health products in collaboration with the FTI through various mechanisms including working groups, subcommittees, and sandbox projects, with a focus on herbal products and high-value goods, as well as driving Thailand to become a center for research, development, and production of innovative health products.

Currently, the FDA is driving cooperation in three main areas:
1. Support research and innovation by establishing a One Stop Service and elevating entrepreneurs for registration readiness.
2. Enhance competitive capabilities by promoting shared production spaces for small entrepreneurs.
3. Build confidence through mechanisms for feedback and continuous development.

Additionally, the FDA has established the “Health Product Economy Division” to develop an index measuring the strength of the health industry and is preparing to utilize Big Data and AI for data management, as well as developing Track and Trace systems and digital labeling to enhance transparency, facilitate easier data access, and promote environmentally friendly practices.

“The FDA is confident that cooperation from all sectors will drive Thailand's health economy towards sustainable growth and truly establish it as a Medical Hub,” Dr. Surachok concluded.
