On Thursday, June 19, 2025, Mrs. Banjusa Phutthapromkhong, a board member of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) and Vice President of the Economic and Academic Division, participated as a speaker in the Asia Academy of Management 2025 Special Conference under the topic “Southeast Asia amidst Geo-economic Headwinds: Uncertainty and Resilience for Multinationals” alongside Mr. Sudhanshu Tyagi, Head of Strategy at Thai Union Group, Mr. Jun Kuroda, President of Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) Thailand, and Mr. Praab Pianskool, Chief Representative of the US - ASEAN Business Council at the Convention Room, 8th Floor, Grand Fourwings Convention Hotel, Bangkok.
During this discussion, Mrs. Banjusa presented an overview of the Thai economy and the challenges facing the Thai industrial sector, stating that the industrial sector accounts for 30% of Thailand's GDP. Moreover, considering the export sector, it constitutes up to 58% of Thailand's GDP, with a significant portion being industrial exports. Therefore, uncertainties regarding the U.S. import tax measures on Thailand may impact various industrial sectors such as aluminum, steel, textiles and garments, and automotive. However, the level of impact will largely depend on the reliance on the U.S. market, as well as the adaptability of the Thai industrial sector to changes through the FTI's core policies known as 4GO: GO Digital & AI, GO Innovation, GO Global, and GO Green, aimed at enhancing the country’s competitiveness and integrating cooperation between the government and the private sector, which is a key factor in driving Thailand's economy and industry forward.
