ส.อ.ท. จัดบรรยายพิเศษ "แผ่นดินไหว ทำยังไง ให้อยู่ไหว" เพื่อรับมือเหตุฉุกเฉินในอนาคตFTI Holds Special Lecture "Earthquake: What to Do to Stay Safe" to Prepare for Future Emergencies

On May 14, 2025, Mr. Nawa Chantrasurakorn, Vice Chairman of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) and Chairman of the Corporate Communication Division, presided over the opening of a special lecture on the topic “Earthquake: What to Do to Stay Safe” for more than 200 members of the FTI. This lecture was honored by Mr. Niwat Thunpitinan, Managing Director of Propertiest Co., Ltd., Vice President of the Foreign Affairs Department of the Association of Consulting Engineers of Thailand, and a member of the Special Commission of the House of Representatives, as the speaker sharing knowledge based on over 36 years of direct experience in structural engineering at Meeting Room 802 Passion, 8th Floor, FTI, and through an online system.

This lecture aimed to enhance knowledge and understanding of construction standards, building safety, and proper conduct during an earthquake. The main topics covered in the lecture included:

• Understanding the magnitudes of the Richter scale and the effects of earthquakes

• Analyzing building cracks

• Observations of structural damage from earthquakes

• How to recognize at-risk buildings (for the general public)

• What to check in buildings after an earthquake

• Assessing earthquake damage

• Conduct during an earthquake and survival strategies

• Understanding aftershocks and how to prepare for them

• Responding in different locations

• Essentials to keep handy in case of future emergencies

The universal practice during an earthquake is known as “Drop, Cover, Hold On,” without causing panic. Additionally, case studies and lessons learned from earthquakes in other countries were presented, along with the recent incident in Thailand on March 28. The importance of “professional awareness” and “design standards” that should not be compromised for cost reduction, especially in an era when the construction of high-rise buildings and large structures is rapidly expanding, was emphasized. It also included fostering a culture of safety, such as earthquake drill practices, to ensure preparedness for emergencies.

This lecture attracted the interest of more than 200 FTI members, indicating that the issue of earthquakes is no longer distant and could occur at any time.

The lecture was organized by the Corporate Communication Division and the Member Relations, Activities, and Revenue Division.
